Bradley's Update...
Ok..so as many of you who know me personally and ask how Bradley is doing I generally give the answer I want to believe…that he is doing great. Yeah great that he is alive…but honestly it stops there. Maybe because I want to believe that he’s going to be fine…that he will be cancer free. However, sometimes reality hits and we look at the situation. Bradley can no longer crawl cuz it hurts. He’s throwing up a lot. Yes all side effects of post radiation, especially of the brain and spine! However, he’s not doing good. Last night was the most energy we have seen in him in a long time there at a friend’s birthday party. I have talked to the doctor and yes it could be nerve damage as to why he doesn’t want to crawl. However, we know on the flip side that it could be the cancer. I don’t want to think like that but the reality is Bradley is not doing good most of the time. Don’t get me wrong…he is still our happy go lucky child who loves to play Mario more than anything! Some friends of ours have been talking to us about this vitamin that can boost his immune system. We are at a loss and need to do something to help him. So we are going to try it. The doctors at St Judes know about it and said they are fine with it as long as it doesn’t raise his liver levels when they do their blood work on him. So if that happens obviously it is hurting him and not doing good and we will stop. However, we need to try something to help him and I will keep up w/ on how well he does with it on here. Obviously we cannot afford to pay for this type of medicine out of our pocket and our friends are doing some fundraisers to help offset the expense of this. They also posted about it on Bradley’s website…www.bradleys-story.com. That gives more info. It’s def worth a try and please just pray that Bradley starts doing better. Maybe there is nerve damage…we don’t know because he can’t tell us. We just know he refuses to crawl. Why we don’t know for sure. So please just pray that he starts to get better and that it’s not the cancer back. If that is the case there is nothing more we can do for him. We pray that these vitamins will help to boost his immune system and he can get healthy again. Thanks for your prayers

2011 Charity Early Bird total $2650
Every year we help out someone in need for our Charity Tournament in April. This year we are helping out Trent Burdett and family. here is his story...
Trenton Burdett was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ( A L L) on Feb 19th of 2009. A L L Leukemia is cancer of the white blood cells. Trent was born November 26, 2006 a normal little boy. Into everything and up on anything he could climb. At age three, the first of February he started running a low grade temp and was given antibiotics to combat the problem. The temp would go away but return in about a week. The Doctor requested a blood test to see if he had an infection of some sort. It was a devastating discovery, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
He was admitted to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines immediately. Within the first 24 hours he had a port surgically placed and Chemotherapy. He was in the hospital for approximately two weeks that time. He returned almost immediately with a fever and sick. More antibiotics and treatments were administered. He was in remission within the first 30 days but that is not uncommon. The chemotherapy must continue for the next three years. Between February ’09 and November ’09 he was in the hospital 90% of the time. During this time he lost all of his hair and he became a bit sensitive about that. But thanks to everyone he got lots of hats. The last admit to the hospital in November was very serious. He had pneumonia, just a common type of pneumonia that most people easily fight off. He had to be sedated and placed on an oscillator. He was in an induced coma for 9 days. Our prayers were answered and he regained his strength. After the ordeal he had to learn to use his muscles to sit up and walk. He had to learn all of his coordination all over again. He had to build up his muscles so he could run and play. It was hard to watch him struggle with the easiest every day challenges. He had to wear special shoes for a time to get his feet and legs to work properly again. Our prayers were answered again and he has recovered to almost 100 percent.
Even after all of this he still can smile and laugh. He has the most beautiful smile and an intoxicating laugh. He seems to laugh all over.
Now his hair has come back and he has even had to go get it cut. Now that was a great event. We went from bald and beautiful to peach fuzz.
He still has his weekly or monthly clinic appoints to keep his blood counts in order. Usually it means getting some sort of blood or yet a lumbar puncture. He has come to endure all of it with grace. Recently his blood numbers are off to the extent that he has to be in Des Moines every 2 weeks to get more blood work done. Trent and Mom take the day and spend lots of quality time together. Reading stories while the blood in given or doing crafts at clinic. He loves the color orange. Everything is orange. Even his cancer color is orange. Now that is a coincidence.
Even the smallest event can make the difference in a child’s life when they are quarantined to a hospital room. The visit from one special therapy dog was all Trent looked forward to. He requested Scout to come and visit as much as possible. His trainer Jay Green was so kind to bring him to see all the kids. When Trent was so sick with pneumonia Jay brought scout to see him and that is when Trent ask is Mommy for a scout of his own. Lana knew that she could not get him one but Nana might. On February 20, 2010 Hope4trent, his very own German Shepard puppy, was born. She is in training as a therapy dog for Trent. After her certification she can give the tenderness and love too others like Scout does. Thanks to Scout and Jay Green, Trent has a forever best buddy.
Trent has had to endure 2 years of needle pokes, doctors, nurses and hospital stays. He has come to make lots of friends in the clinic and hospital. He even has his special “girlfriend” nurses. We pray every day that this awful disease is going to be gone after another year passes. Yes, one more year of chemotherapy, doctor visits, hospital stays, and killing all those nasty germs at could put him back in the hospital.
Trent has proven to all of us he is a survivor. He has been through more pain, discomfort, inconveniences, and just downright not nice stuff then one little body needs to. He is a hero to all of us. Trenton Burdett you are special.
